Only the tune-bot studio has it (I have the original tune-bot though, which has all the same features as the studio). Speaking of the Filter, that's something the tune-bot gig doesn't have. I have learned it's possible to adjust the tension/tuning of the head to eliminate those erratic readings, and the result is always the same: a better sound by each lug and a better sound of the drum than I'd otherwise get if I simply turned on the Filter and did nothing to fix those erratic readings. These erratic readings show you how exactly well the head is sitting on the shell and how evenly it's tensioned in a way you just can't hear on your own. You also need to spend time practicing tuning with it because there are times where you get erratic readings, and the more experience you get with using the tune-bot, the more you understand what those erratic readings mean and what to do when you get them. The tune-bot is just like any other drum tuner: it's not something you should use if you aren't already good at tuning by ear. Often, being in a hurry makes it difficult for me to tune by ear because I can't "slow down" or just relax and focus.įinally, it helps me tune at gigs when I can't hear well enough to use my ears, such as trying to tune in a loud bar.Īgain though, I don't depend on it. It also helps me when I'm having a hard time hearing differences in pitches between some of the lugs, either due to fatigue or due to not having slept well or being in a hurry, or whatever else the cause might be.Īlso, it helps save me time when I need to tune faster, like on the day of a gig and maybe I'm running a little behind and I'm tuning up before leaving. I don't need this level of precision, but I love having it! That's not because I could be better at tuning by ear, it's because it "hears" with absolute precision. So I don't need the tune-bot, but it does help me tune with greater precision than I can achieve on my own. No tuner replaces tuning by ear, not even the tune-bot.
